How can I tell if a pashmina shawl is pure or original?

Why are some pashmina shawls banned?
Shahtoosh, not pashmina, is what's banned. Shahtoosh is made from the wool of the Tibetan antelope (chiru), an endangered species, and its trade is illegal worldwide for conservation reasons. Standard pashmina comes from goat wool, not antelope, and is entirely legal.
How do I wash a pashmina shawl?
Hand wash in cold water with a mild detergent, or dry clean for embroidered and heavier pieces. Avoid wringing. Press out excess water gently and lay flat to dry.
